Manny Pacquiao on International Boxing Hall of Fame induction: 'Never imagined this moment'
Manny Pacquiao has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in New York.
In an Instagram post, the Filipino boxing legend looked back on his humble beginnings as he reflected on his induction.
"From the streets of General Santos, to the bright lights of Las Vegas, to tonight at the International Boxing Hall of Fame," he said in the caption. "No shoes, no food, no chance, just a dream in my heart."
The 46-year-old said he "never imagined this moment."
"[B]ut by God’s grace, here we are. This is not just about boxing. It’s about faith. Family. Sacrifice. Purpose. It’s about every Filipino and every fan who believed in me, even when the doubters didn’t," he said.
Pacquiao gave a shoutout to his wife Jinkee and their children for the "love and support through every high and every low."
He also noted that his recent feat is shared with his fans, coaches, the media, and every person who cheered, prayed, or stood for him all these years.
"[T]his is your victory, too," he said.
Pacquiao told the "next generation of fighters" to "never let your situation limit your destiny."
"With God, nothing is impossible," he added. "Mabuhay ang Pilipinas. This is our story. And the best is still to come."
Pacquiao shared a Reel of himself in a parade as fans are out on the streets cheering for him. "Thank you to all the fans that came out to show support. God Bless!" he said in the caption.
Pacquiao was inducted into the Hall of Fame on June 8 (June 9, Philippine time). His induction came ahead of his match against American boxer Marrio Barrios for the World Boxing Council welterweight championship on July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao started boxing in the '90s. He's the only boxer in the world to become an eight-division champion. He also has 12 major world titles under his belt.
Throughout his career, he defeated boxing legends like Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Oscar De La Hoya, and Miguel Cotto.
Dubbed the "People's Champ," Pacquiao has a record of 62 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws, with 39 of his wins via knockout.
In July 2024, Pacquiao was named ESPN's top Asian athlete of the 21st century.
