‘Nomadland’ wins Best Picture; Complete list of Oscars 2021 winners

Published Apr 26, 2021 12:05 pm

The 93rd Academy Awards which aired on ABC concluded Sunday night (April 25) in a ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre and Union Station in Los Angeles.

Nomadland emerged as the big winner of the night, bagging trophies for Best Picture, Best Director for Chloé Zhao (the first woman of color to take home the prize) and Best Actress for Frances McDormand.

For the first time ever, the Best Directing category included two women: Nomadland‘s Chloé Zhao and Promising Young Woman‘s Emerald Fennell.

David Fincher’s Mank initially led the pack with 10 total nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Directing.

Several Best Picture nominees—including The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari and Nomadland—each scored six nominations each.

The Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun became the first Asian-American performer to ever be recognized in the Lead Actor category (for his work in Minari).

During the ceremony, the Academy Awards paid tribute to those in the entertainment industry who passed away over the past year, including actors Christopher Plummer, Sean Connery, and Chadwick Boseman.

Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for The Father, prevailing over the late Chadwick Boseman, who passed way from colon cancer in August 2020.

Boseman received a posthumous nomination for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, for which he won a Golden Globe earlier this year.
