Chris Evans to return as Captain America in 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Cap is back!
In the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer shown in cinemas, Chris Evans is reprising his iconic role as Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, as reported by Variety.
The teaser, which is not yet available online as of writing, reportedly shows Steve wearing a blue helmet reminiscent of his Captain America costume as he rides a motorcycle home, accompanied by a piano version of the Avengers theme. He is later seen admiring the costume and holding a newborn with pride. The clip ends with the message, “Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday,” followed by a countdown timer set to expire in December 2026, the film's release date.
Per Variety, this is one of many teasers set to be released in the coming weeks, with each focusing on other characters.
In June, Evans previously said he would not join the upcoming Avengers movie.
"I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren't invited to the party," he told ScreenRant.
Evans' Captain America was last seen in the 2019 film Endgame, where he traveled through time to return the Infinity Stones to their proper timelines. He later returned to the main MCU timeline as an elderly man. There, he passed his Vibranium shield to Sam Wilson—formerly known as the Falcon—and was finally reunited with his beloved, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).
The actor also previously made a surprise cameo in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, but as Human Torch, a role he played in the 2005 movie Fantastic Four.
His surprise return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe marks a reunion with the original cast, including Robert Downey Jr., who will play the ultimate villain, Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd's Ant-Man, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, Sebastian Stan, and more.
Stars from X-Men will also appear in a crossover, including Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, James Marden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Comming.
