‘Fear Street’ horror trilogy coming to Netflix in July
“Three movies. Three weeks. One killer story.”
Netflix has announced its Fear Street trilogy horror film series will be released over three consecutive weeks starting July 2, 2021.
Each installment based upon the bestselling teen horror Fear Street books by R.L. Stine and directed by Leigh Janiak will cover a different time period. The trilogy features an ensemble cast including two Stranger Things alums and will be released on the streaming giants weeks apart.
Part 1: 1994 will start streaming July 2, followed by Part 2: 1978 on July 9 and Part 3: 1666 on July 16.

The teaser footage for Fear Street: Part One - 1994 opens with Stranger Things' star Maya Hawke answering a landline phone inside a bookstore before coming face to face with a villain wearing a skeleton mask wielding a knife, reminiscent of Scream slasher flicks.
Hawke's Stranger Things co-star Sadie Sink leads Fear Street: Part Two - 1978. The second insallment takes place at a summer camp that's being stalked by a masked figure whose weapon of choice is an axe.
The footage for Fear Street: Part Three - 1666 shows a bloody figure after several shots depicting a village in a colonial town gripped by a hysterical witch-hunt.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film series:
“In 1994, a group of teenagers discovers that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected — and that they may be the next targets. Based on R.L. Stine’s best selling horror series, the trilogy follows the nightmare through Shadyside’s sinister history.”
Originally developed by 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment, the trilogy finished filming in September 2019, before being picked up by Netflix for a mid-2021 release.
“We filmed all three ‘Fear Street’ movies over one crazy, bloody summer,” Janiak said in a statement. “It’s a dream that audiences now get to experience the story in the same way—back to back to back, with only a week of waiting in between. I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the world of ‘Fear Street’ in 1994, 1978, and 1666!”
The Fear Street horror fiction series originally debuted in 1989 and served as a more teenage counterpart to the hugely influential Goosebumps series targeted for younger readers, which made Stine a household name.
The teaser poster art for the show pays homage to the book series with its retro-inspired book cover design and nostalgic title font in front of three weapons.

According to the original series author: “‘Fear Street’ fans are in for a treat, and some major surprises. Readers know that the book series is rated PG. But the movies are rated R,” said Stine.
“That means a lot more thrills and a lot more terror! I have seen Leigh Janiak’s epic trilogy releasing on Netflix in July and I can tell you the scares and the SCREAMS are more than I ever expected. What fun to see the horrors of Shadyside come to life!,” the author added.
