Powerpuff Girls live-action series coming to The CW
The crime-fighting trio of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup may soon grace your TV once more, this time as grownups in a live-action, adult-themed reboot.
According to a report by entertainment news website Variety, The CW (CW Television Network) is developing a live-action update of The Powerpuff Girls. This new remake is said to focus on the titular characters: three disillusioned twenty-somethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Unforeseen circumstances will eventually force the trio to reunite once more.
Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody will write the series. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Berlanti Productions will serve as executive producers, alongside Warner Bros. Television.
The Powerpuff Girls is an American superhero animated TV series created by animator Craig McCracken. The story revolved around Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, three kindergarten-aged girls with superpowers who were created by Professor Utonium using a mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice with the mysterious Chemical X.
The original show aired in Cartoon Network with a total of 78 episodes across six seasons, from 1998 to 2005. A full-length film – The Powerpuff Girls Movie – was released in 2002, while a rebooted animated series ran from 2016 to 2019.
