Manny Pacquiao has officially joined the International Boxing Association.

The Filipino boxing legend's appointment as IBA's vice president is a move to push the organization towards its "golden era" and "professionalize the sport, expand athlete opportunities, and keep boxing free from political interference," IBA said on its website.

He will work with IBA President Umar Kremlev to "develop athlete-first programs, grow boxing in Asia and beyond, and champion fairness and protection for boxers."

His other duties include promoting the Association's ideals worldwide, advising the President and the Board on strategic matters within his expertise, representing the IBA at major international events and initiatives, and completing special assignments from the President or the Board.

"Manny Pacquiao is widely beloved around the globe. He is a true boxing legend who wants to leave a legacy beyond the ring. His life story mirrors the spirit of IBA’s mission: giving every young boxer a fair chance to achieve their dreams," Kremlev said.

According to the Associated Press, IBA (formerly the Amateur International Boxing Association) has been barred from holding boxing in the Olympics since 2021 after repeated warnings over financial, governance, and ethical concerns.
