Lauren Gunderson's thriller 'anthropology' to be staged in Manila this March
Can AI help us grieve? This is the big question posed in Lauren Gunderson's play, anthropology, which will have its Asian premiere in Manila this March.
Barefoot Theatre Collaborative is bringing the psychological theater to the Doreen Black Box Theater, Areté in Quezon City from March 13 to 29.
The play follows Merril, to be played by Jenny Jamora, an expert AI programmer dealing with the disappearance and death of her sister Angie, to be played by Maronne Cruz. In a Black Mirror-esque turn of events, Merril brings back her sister as an AI, but things start to spiral into a complex web of obsession, and the dangerous line between a comforting memory and a digital ghost gets blurred.
Apart from Jamora and Cruz, the upcoming staging features an all-female cast with Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante as Raquel, Merril's ex-girlfriend, and Jackie Lou Blanco as Brin, Merril and Angie's estranged mother.
Helming the production is Caisa Borromeo with D Cortezano as technical director and lighting designer, Sarah Facuri as production designer, Arvy Dimaculangan as sound designer, and CueCraft and Steven Tansiongco as video designers.
