It’s here: How to display your pronouns on Instagram

Published Sep 03, 2021 4:05 pm

Filipino users can now display their defined pronouns on their Instagram accounts.

The new feature introduced in May 2021 is the photo-sharing platform's way of practicing inclusivity and for users to open the conversation on gender identity.

Will you display your preferred pronouns in the app? Here's how to do it:

1. Go to your Instagram profile and click on 'Edit Profile.' Under username, there will be a new blank category for pronouns.

No description available.

2. When clicked, a pop-up will appear requesting you to write up to four pronoun choices. Unlike the initial drop-down menu, users can simply write their choice of pronouns. There's also the choice to only show it to followers.

Instagram's choice of pronouns ranges from she/her/hers, he/him/his they/them, co / cos, e /ey , em / eir, fae / faer, thon / thons, ve / ver / vis, vi / vir, and  more.

3. From there, your chosen pronouns will be displayed in smaller text beside your display name

Users are able to remove and change their pronouns at any time.

Instagram also worked with LGBTQ+ organizations such as GLAAD, PFLAG, and The Trevor Project to ensure that their pronouns are as inclusive as can be.
