Here are some upcoming shows unveiled at Disney+ Originals Preview
Gear up for your next binge-watch! The Walt Disney Company Asia-Pacific announced a slate of new releases—including several Asian titles—at Disney+ Originals Preview 2025, held at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
Luke Kang, president of The Walt Disney Company APAC, noted that Japanese and Korean works are seeing massive growth among global audiences.
"As we continue this creative journey, we've seen exceptional works from Japan and Korea resonate globally more than ever," he said.
He backed this up with viewership data, with over 60% of global viewing hours for top Japanese animation occurring outside the Asia Pacific region.
Furthermore, he noted that Korean entertainment is rapidly growing in Latin America, affirming the approach to invest heavily in high-quality APAC content creation.
K-dramas are coming in waves, and we can’t wait to ride them
The streaming platform unveiled its 2026 lineup of Korean and Japanese originals at the event, with the political period film Made in Korea taking center stage. At the event, actor Hyun Bin revealed that he chose to participate in this movie “because of the narrative power of the 1970s era."
"The density of the script deeply impressed me," he explained.
His co-star Jung Woo-sung expressed the same, saying, “I initially thought the character didn’t suit me, but I became engrossed as I read more.”
The Remarried Empress will also grace your screens next year with Shin Min-a, Ju Jihoon, Lee Jongsuk, and Lee Seyoung. Shim Min-a promises to "newly unravel the emotional line of the empress," while Ju Ji-hoon said that being able to bring a Korean historical drama to global audience is a "major draw."
Crime thriller series Goldland, starring Park Boyoung, Kim Sung Cheol, and Lee Hyun Wook, is set to release in 2026. Kim Sung-cheol described the show as “a piece that truly showcases the unique speed and power of Korean crime dramas through a Disney+ series.”
We’re also getting a Korean-Japanese romcom series called Merry Berry Love, starring Ji Changwook and Mio Imada. It follows a Korean designer (Ji Chang-wook) who moves to Japan to start a new life and grows a connection with a strawberry farmer (Mio Imada).
Ji Chang-wook said, “I wanted to work in Japan. This combination is more interesting than I expected.”
Meanwhile, IU and Byeon Woo-seok are pairing up for Perfect Crown (working title). The romance drama is set in an alternate modern-day Korea under a constitutional monarchy.
Who's ready for the reunion of Suzy and Kim Seon Ho? The two are the stars of the webtoon-based period mystery thriller, Portraits of Delusion.
Beloved shows Are You Sure with BTS members Jimin and Jungkook, and A Shop for Killers are returning with new seasons.
