Stay awhile... for PC
Blizzard is also launching ‘Diablo Immortal’ on PC this June... so you won’t have to use an emulator
You’ve asked, they’ve delivered. Blizzard Entertainment’s long-awaited hack and slash mobile game is officially coming to PC this June.
In a new blog post, the video game developer confirmed that free-to-play RPG Diablo Immortal will simultaneously launch on mobile and PC next month, complete with cross-play and cross-progression support.
“We have gone the extra mile to preserve major elements of the iconic Diablo control scheme so that you can slay monsters in the comfort of your own home chair,” it said.
Blizzard admitted that it decided to make a PC port of Diablo Immortal since seasoned players will eventually find ways to play the game on PC via an emulator.
“The decision to develop Diablo Immortal for PC was one that the team went back and forth on for a large part of the development process. On one hand, we felt that we wouldn’t be doing the title justice by releasing a game originally designed for mobile on PC; on the other hand, we wanted to make sure the game reached as many players as possible—especially our most dedicated PC fans,” it explained.
“In the end, the deciding factor was that we knew many of you would attempt to play this game through an emulator, thus leading us towards building a better experience. So stay awhile and listen as we delve into more details on the PC version of Diablo Immortal,” it added.
Blizzard said that the PC port of Diablo Immortal is an "experiment" and may feel a little different for longtime players since they didn’t originally plan to create a PC version of the free-to-play RPG.
However, the video game company said that they knew they had to take the time to make it happen as soon as it became a possibility.
With this, Blizzard assured the Diablo community that the game will deliver an “uncompromised AAA mobile experience” when played on PC.
“To assure this, Diablo Immortal will launch on PC in Open Beta. What this means is that you will be able to take the fight to the Burning Hell’s legions on PC upon launch with full cross-play and cross-progression support,” it said.
Blizzard added: “During the PC Open Beta period, we will continue to collect player feedback, make changes, and fine-tune this version of Immortal until we feel it delivers a finalized experience for all courageous adventurers. With that said, we have already made a few adjustments to ensure playing Diablo Immortal on PC feels seamless for Sanctuary’s defenders.”
Meanwhile, Blizzard confirmed that Diablo Immortal will also host controller support for mobile and PC, modifying controller functionality so players get to navigate the game’s menu via thumbstick. Additionally, PC players may also opt to use W/A/S/D/ directional keys to move around the map—a first in the Diablo series.
Diablo Immortal is spawning on mobile and PC on June 2. Players in the Philippines, meanwhile, will have to wait until late June to enjoy the free-to-play game.
