Rovio working on reviving ‘Angry Birds’ games
The flocks are coming back!
Game developer Rovio announced Tuesday the return of old Angry Birds games after it was quietly removed from app stores in 2019.
Some of the games pulled out were Angry Birds Classic and Angry Birds Seasons, but there are no specific titles mentioned in the announcement among which of the games are coming back.
The company said, however, “it would be ridiculous to not bring back the original game that started it all, wouldn’t it?” and promises fans to relive “classic experiences.”
“We will strive to bring back the experiences and content as they were many years ago, we’re nostalgic about some [of] our original games, too,” it added.
For the games that will be coming back, they will be rebuilding from scratch to meet new platform requirements.
Rovio explained that due to the fast-paced nature of the gaming industry, the older games, including the original Angry Birds released in 2009, became impossible to maintain as it was built on older technology and, eventually, they could not keep up with the company’s standards and external requirements.
“Today’s mobile technology and games landscape has evolved to a place where supporting them was untenable. And we can’t just leave them there and not update them, as games need to comply with all sorts of platform requirements,” Rovio said.
The beloved characters of the game have also shared their stories and adventures in a 2016 movie, 2018 series, and another upcoming movie this year, Angry Birds: Summer Madness.
