Award-winning film ‘Yellow Rose’ is now on Netflix and other shows to watch this weekend

Here’s our roundup of newly-released films and series you can add to your watchlist this weekend.

Yellow Rose, the award-winning film about Filipino-American immigrants, is currently streaming on Netflix. The film stars Broadway heavyweights Eva Noblezada and Lea Salonga as Rose and her aunt, respectively. Princess Punzalan is also part of the cast, playing Rose’s mother who is taken by US authorities.

There are a couple of interesting new animes streaming as well, including The Way of the Househusband, an adaptation of Kousuke Oono's hugely-popular webcomic series which follows the story of a former yakuza legend who chose to become a full-time househusband.

Yellow Rose

Synopsis: A talented Filipina teen living in Texas has dreams of country music stardom that are threatened by her family's undocumented immigration status.

The Way of the Househusband

Synopsis: After disappearing from the underworld, the legendary yakuza Tatsu “the Immortal Dragon,” resurfaces—as a fiercely devoted sta-at-home husband.

Thunder Force

Synopsis: Two childhood best friends reunite as an unlikely crime-fighting superhero duo when one invents a formula that gives ordinary people superpowers.

Gifted

Synopsis: A child prodigy gets caught in a custody battle between the kindhearted uncle who raised her and the grandmother who wants to cultivate her genius.

Coded Bias

Synopsis: This documentary investigates the bias in algorithms after M.I.T. Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini uncovered flaws in facial recognition technology.

Curve

Synopsis: A young bride-to-be trying to shake a sadistic hitchhiker drives her truck off the road and ends up in a harrowing fight for survival.

The Last Princess

Synopsis: Forced into a life of exile in Japan at age 13, Joseon's last princess fights against all odds to reclaim her independence and finally return home.

Night in Paradise

Synopsis: Hiding out in Jeju Island following a brutal tragedy, a wronged mobster with a target on his back connects with a woman who has her own demons.

Heaven Official’s Blessing

Synopsis: Banished to the mortal realm to exorcise ghosts, a deity must reckon with a demon and soon uncovers a dark secret behind the heavenly gods.

I Love You to Death

Synopsis: After vowing to wed one day, childhood sweethearts Gwen and Tonton reunite when she makes a wish that brings him back into her life—and back to life.
