Learn Korean with BTS!
K-Pop and KDrama fans have this urge to learn Korean. For international fans of Bangtan Sonyeondan or BTS, it can be frustrating to watch the boys doing live broadcasts via VLive or YouTube and being unable to understand what they’re saying.
Most of the time, we wait for the English subtitles – which are normally online after 12 hours – or rely more on kind-hearted translators from Twitter.
Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’ management is very much aware of this dilemma. Just last March, they introduced the Learn! Korean With BTS on Weverse. These are 3-Minute instructional videos featuring BTS. To make the viewers relate more, they use situational scenes featuring the Bangtan Boys.
Of course, learning from 3-minute videos released weekly is not enough for those who are really serious and eager to learn Korean and write in Hangul.
Big Hit Edu is a subsidiary of Big Hit Entertainment that was launched in late 2018. An expanded Learn! Korean with BTS version developed by Professor Heo Yong's research team at Hangkuk University of Foreign Studies is now available on sale via the Weverse Shop app! It features TinyTAN, the mini versions of the BTS members who will make studying and learning a bit more fun and entertaining!
Learn! Korean with BTS features a main character named 'Bora'. She is an international Army who travels around Korea. The study package contains four textbooks, a sound pen and Hangul keyboard stickers. The lucky ones who ordered the first edition gets a practice notebook that connects to the sound pen.
Since Bora is "traveling" around South Korea to learn about the country and its culture, the textbooks are named after tourists destinations.
Studying Korean with the Speaking Pen helps students to know the correct Korean pronunciation by listening to it instantly. It also has the ability to translate in English, Japanese and Spanish so you can understand easily. The camera on the Speaking Pen has an optical camera and reads the Ncode, the tiny dots printed in the books. Isn’t that cool? According to fans who were able to purchase the kit, the Speaking Pen is easy to use and produces clear sounds.
To make it more fun and exciting, you also get to learn Korean consonants and vowels starting with the ‘ARMY Basics’ – Writing the names of BTS members and songs! When you scan the QR Codes with your smartphone, you will also see some familiar videos of BTS that are mostly from the RUN BTS show. Fans are also encouraged to practice by posting a message on Weverse in Korean. K-Armies will surely cheer your posts!
According to the press release posted on Weverse Shop, Big Hit Edu aims to create and spread numerous content including Korean education content in order to encourage everyone across the globe to communicate and express their thought and feelings.
Let’s be real: Learning Korean takes a lot of effort. How many KDramas have we watched and KPop songs did we sing and dance to yet we still struggle to understand, speak and write it? Through Learn! Korean with BTS, we get to focus and learn more because we feel that we’re studying with RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook as our classmates.
