Warner Bros. moves release dates for 'Mortal Kombat,' 'Tom and Jerry' films
Due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting theaters worldwide, Warner Bros. has adjusted the release dates for a few of its upcoming movies: Mortal Kombat, Tom and Jerry, and sci-fi drama Reminiscence.
The new film adaptation of Mortal Kombat was originally set for Jan. 15, 2021, but the release has been moved to April 16, 2021. The live-action Tom and Jerry movie that was originally scheduled for release Mar. 5, 2021 was moved up a week and will now premiere on Feb. 26, 2021. Meanwhile, sci-fi drama Reminiscence was set to be released in mid-April 2021, but it has now been completely removed from the studio’s release calendar for 2021.
Mortal Kombat was directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan, with the script written by the Greg Russo and Dave Callaham. The movie stars Ludi Lin, Joe Taslim, Tadanobu Asano and Jessica McNamee, in a story about “Earth’s greatest champions, who are called upon to battle the enemies of the Outworld and save the planet from total destruction.”
The live-action and animation hybrid Tom and Jerry was directed by Tim Story, and follows the notorious cartooned cat and mouse duo. The film stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost and Ken Jeong.
Sci-fi drama Reminiscence was directed by Lisa Joy, with Hugh Jackman playing the lead role. All three films will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on their respective release dates.
