'Insidious 6' set to be released in August 2025
Sony Pictures is bringing another franchise to its list as Insidious 6 is set to slate in cinemas in 2025.
The horror blockbuster, under Blumhouse Productions, is scheduled for release on August 29, 2025, the studio revealed on Thursday.
Further details of the film are yet to be disclosed but it will no longer be written and directed by Jeremy Slater for a Thread: An Insidious Tale spin-off which was first reported in May 2023. The said movie is supposed to star Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani but there has been no update since the report broke.
The upcoming movie will succeed last year's Insidious: The Red Door starring Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins which grossed a whopping $82 million domestically and $189 million worldwide.
If the calendar remains unchanged, the production of the sixth installment will span for 25 months.
It can be recalled that the aforementioned lead also directed the said movie. In an interview with Collider, Wilson explained why he stepped up to direct the movie.
"I think, like everything, like all of us, you look at the opportunities you're presented with, the opportunities that are in front of you, your goals shift as your career shifts," he said.
The fifth installment unfolded the chronicle of the Lambert family as shown in the first two films.
Launched in 2010, the Insidious horror franchise delved into a series of supernatural huntings, focusing on the exploration of a forbidden dimension called “The Further” which is known to be inhabited by vengeful spirits and demons.
Since its debut, the franchise by James Wan and Leigh Whannell earned a total of $730 million gross globally.
