Children's tale 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' gets horror treatment in upcoming film

If you think Winnie the Pooh is the only cartoon character capable of ruining our childhood, wait until you see Goldilocks who, like the beloved teddy bear, has turned into a menacing villain in the upcoming horror film Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge.

The film is a grim take on the popular 19th-century children's tale of the same title and popularized by Romantic poet Robert Southey.

To give you a refresher, Southey's Goldilocks and the Three Bears tells the story of a little girl, named Goldilocks, who goes into a forest and enters the home of a family of bears while they are all away. She then eats the family's porridge, sleeps on their beds, and even sits on their chairs and breaks one of them. The bears see her when they reach home, but instead of apologizing, Goldilocks makes an escape through one of the house's windows.

Like most children's tales, the Goldilocks and the Three Beas published by Southey in his book The Doctor in 1837 is the third version of the original narrative told in oral tradition.

The original tale was titled The Story of the Three Bears, with an old woman entering the house of three bachelor bears. In the second one, the old woman was replaced by Goldilocks. The third, and also the one reinterpreted by Southey, features a family of bears instead of the bachelor trio.

Gold Eagle Studio

Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge, on the other hand, is an indie film written and directed by Craig Rees with Gold Eagle Studio and Reese Dragon Productions as producers. It is being promoted with a cryptic tagline, "Never enter into someone's house without permission."

It began making rounds online when the studios dropped its creepy first trailer late last week. The clip begins with a spooky lullaby and a ghastly giggle before it shows Goldilocks running around the forest.

It then transitions into the blonde girl pointing a gun at the camera while wearing a mask. It is proceeded by jump cuts featuring two men wearing bear head masks. The first one is stirring a big cauldron while the second is swinging an axe.

The film's producers have yet to announce the release of the film and whether it would be released worldwide. In the meantime, watch the Goldilcoks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge trailer below.
