LIST: Museums with free admission that you can go to this weekend
Museum date this weekend, anyone?
Every May 18, International Museum Day is celebrated to raise awareness that museums play a vital role in cultural exchange, enriching societies and fostering mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among peoples.
This year's theme is "The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities," which invites people to reimagine the role of museums as essential connectors, innovators, and stewards of cultural identity.
In line with this, local museums are opening their doors at no cost this weekend, offering unique activities designed to spark curiosity and deepen your appreciation for art, history, and culture. Here are a few spots worth adding to your plans:
National Museum of the Philippines
Visitors will have the chance to enjoy free special guided tours on May 18 on a first-come, first-served basis at the National Museum.
The first batch will be entertained at 10:00 a.m., while the second is set at 2:00 p.m. Walk-ins are also welcome.
"Start your journey of discovery at the National Museum of Fine Arts, followed by the National Museum of Anthropology, and finally the National Museum of Natural History," the museum wrote.
Yuchengco Museum
Yuchengco Museum will be holding its free admission from May 17 to 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The museum holds a vast array of local, cultural, historical, and design exhibits and programs. One of their current ones is a display dedicated to unbuilt works by members of the United Architects of the Philippines.
Ateneo Art Gallery

Film fanatics are in for a treat at the Ateneo Art Gallery as the modern art museum has prepared a series of screenings that feature the works of Baguio-based filmmakers and artists.
In line with the theme, the program will feature five short films that "explore the rich landscape of the Baguio art scene." The screenings will be held on May 18 at 2:00 p.m. and are open to the public for free.
Aside from this, the Ateneo Art Gallery is also offering free museum admission for all guests on May 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
AIMS Museo Maritimo

AIMS (Asian Institute of Maritime Studies) Museo Maritimo–the first maritime-themed museum in the Philippines—will also mark International Museum Day with free admission for everyone on May 17.
"We’re opening our doors for a full day of discovery, creativity, and hands-on fun. Dive into the rich maritime heritage of the Philippines through interactive exhibits and immersive learning spaces that bring history to life," it said.
Metropolitan Museum of Manila

You can also spend your day at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, as admission rates will be lower for International Museum Day.
Walk-in guests can get a discounted rate of P200 on May 17.
"Museums have long been spaces of learning, reflection, and dialogue. But today, they are so much more. As dynamic institutions, they spark social innovation, harness new technologies, and help shape more inclusive, forward-thinking communities," it said.
