'Deleter' and other films that won big at the MMFF 2022 awarding night
The 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal concluded with the techno-horror film Deleter bringing home several big awards, including the much coveted Best Picture title.
Centering on an online content moderator named Lyra (played by Nadine Lustre) who witnesses the suicide video of one of her workmates, Deleter became the envy of the other MMFF entries as it took home the award for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound.
Because of her performance in the film, Nadine earned her very first MMFF Best Actress award during the ceremonies held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
In her speech, Nadine dedicated her award to her family, her supportive friends, her boyfriend Christopher Bariou, and the entire crew of Deleter. She then shared that the feeling was "unreal" as they didn't really expect that their film would be included in the roster of this year's film festival.
Ian Veneracion was meanwhile named as Best Actor for his performance as a corrupt police officer in Nanahimik Ang Gabi, which is a first for the veteran celebrity in his 40 years in the film industry.

If you still haven't watched the other official entries to this year's MMFF, or if you haven't seen a single one at all, the eight films will still be screening in theaters until Jan. 7. The selection is based on artistic excellence, commercial appeal, Filipino cultural values, and global appeal.
The 48th MMFF centers on the theme "Balik Saya," as it's the second year the festival would return to theaters since it was closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
