The Avengers get the Broadway treatment in Hawkeye’s musical number ‘Save the City’

The epic Battle of New York has gotten the Broadway treatment with an all-new original song calling on the Avengers to unite and assemble.

Disney Plus and Marvel have released the full song titled Save the City featured in a Broadway musical, Rogers: The Musical, which Clint Barton is shown watching with his family in the first episode of the Marvel series Hawkeye.

The original song was written and composed by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the songwriting team behind the likes of HairspraySmash, and Mary Poppins Returns.

While viewers unfortunately don’t get to see the full musical number onstage, we do get to hear the full 4:27 long song in the audio-only clip, which you can listen to below.

You can also listen to the song online on other audio streaming platforms including Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music and more.

Save the City, which has loads of references to previous MCU films and memorable quotes (including a line about getting shawarma), is exactly what you’d expect from a Broadway musical ballad.

Marvel.com reports that "Rogers: The Musical" came about when Kevin Feige wanted to meet Shaiman and Wittman at an Academy Awards dinner.

In an exclusive interview with Marvel.com, Wittman previously revealed: "We were in the middle of the very worst part of the pandemic. When we were writing it was like when people would go and bang on pots and pans for the hospital workers, first responders. It all seemed to fit into the universe that we were writing to. So, the notion of ‘someone please save New York,’ was the battle cry of [the song].”

The Hawkeye: Vol. 1 (Episodes 1-3) soundtrack with score composed by Christophe Beck and Michael Paraskevas is set for release on Dec. 10 and will be followed by Hawkeye: Vol. 2 (Episodes 4-6) with score by Christophe Beck on Dec. 24.

Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, who teams up with Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. The cast also includes Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez. Hawkeye is directed by Executive Producer Rhys Thomas and directing duo Bert and Bertie.

The first two episodes of Hawkeye are currently streaming on Disney Plus, with new episodes releasing Wednesdays.
