'Euphoria' season 3 to feature time jump that takes cast out of high school
Euphoria season 3 will no longer be set in East Highland High School.
Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys told Variety in a recent interview that the Emmy-nominated show will see the return of its main cast.
He added that the show's creator and writer Sam Levinson doesn't want it to be set in high school anymore.
"There's been a lot of back and forth... One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn't want to have it in high school anymore. That's where it was set and what made sense then," Bloys said.
"So when you take it out of that, there's a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff. But I think he's got a take that he's excited about and he's busy writing."
Bloys didn't specify which cast members would return but two stars have already confirmed that they won't be back for the upcoming season. In April 2023, Barbie Ferreira announced that she left the show as she didn't think her character Kat had "a place for her to go." Meanwhile, Angus Cloud died from an accidental drug overdose in July 2023.
Euphoria has some young rising stars in its cast including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and Stormi Reid.
HBO previously confirmed in November 2023 that the third season won't be coming until 2025. In August 2023, Levinson also said the upcoming season will be a "film noir" with Rue (Zendaya) exploring "what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world."
The earlier two seasons of the show followed the struggles of teenage drug addict Rue as she finds her place in the world.
