YouTube expands to gaming with 'Playables' for premium subscribers

YouTube is stepping up its game with a new feature allowing Premium subscribers to play games directly on its mobile app or website.

Dubbed "Playables," the feature gives paid subscribers access to 37 online mini arcade games like crowd favorites Angry Birds Showdown, Brain Out, Daily Solitaire, The Daily Crossword, and more without having to download and install another app.

YouTube first tested the feature in September before notifying its Premium subscribers on Nov. 25 that the feature is already available for them to enjoy.

Before gaining access to Playables, Premium subscribers must first log into their account on the YouTube app on their Android or iOS devices or on the streaming platform's website on their desktop.

After logging in, click your profile icon and scroll down to the "Your Premium benefits" tab. Click "Try experimental new features" then select the "Play games on YouTube" option. This will then enable you to browse and choose games in the library in the "Playables" section in the "Explore" tab.

It is important to note, though, that this feature will only be available until March 28, 2024. YouTube has yet to confirm if it has plans to roll out Playables to the general public in the days to come.

According to tech outlets, the launch of Playables appears to be YouTube's strategic move to retain and attract Premium subscribers with additional entertainment benefits.
