Sunshine Dizon, a long-time GMA-7 star, is moving to ABS-CBN, says report
One of GMA-7’s most enduring—and arguably most popular—stars is reportedly transferring to a rival network.
According to a Pilipino Star Ngayon report, actress Sunshine Dizon is moving to ABS-CBN, after being a talent of the Kapuso network for 25 years. The 37-year-old actress has been with GMA-7 since 1996, when she starred in the teen drama Anna Karenina that thrust her into stardom.
The report said Sunshine recently attended a story conference for an upcoming show in ABS-CBN starring Paulo Avelino and Janine Gutierrez—an indication that she will be a part of the said series. Coincidentally, Janine is also a recent transfer, having moved to the Kapamilya Network in January of this year.
It added that Sunshine may have moved to ABS-CBN because GMA-7 did not renew her contract with the network. If this is true, it means the actress is no longer bound by a network contract and can work in any TV station, hence her reported move to do a show with ABS-CBN.
It will be interesting to see Sunshine working with ABS-CBN, as she has been one of the GMA-7’s most visible stars in the past few years, having starred in some of the network’s most popular shows. She was recently seen in the afternoon soap opera Magkaagaw, but showbiz denizens may remember her role as Emma in the iconic drama Ika-6 Na Utos and as Pirena in the 2005 fantasy show Encantadia.
Network transfers are commonplace in Philippine showbiz, though it's a move many fans may consider precarious given the current state of the entertainment industry that's been affected by the COVID-19 and the ABS-CBN shutdown.
