Universal Pictures drops new trailer for ‘The Croods 2: New Age’

It sure took a while, but 2013’s prehistoric animated adventure comedy The Croods is finally having a sequel – The Croods 2: A New Age. In a new trailer released by Universal Pictures, the Croods are challenged by the Bettermans, a rival family who claim to be better and more evolved.

The four-minute trailer titled "Wildest Wildlife Croodimals Documentary" resembles a fake documentary tackling an assortment of hybrid creatures, each measured by their own threat levels. These new animals feature weird names like Death Cat, Chicken Seal, Humble Sloth, Land Sharks, Wolf Spiders and Punch Monkey. They will also play a big role in the rivalry between the Croods and Bettermans.

Here’s the synopsis:

The Croods need a new place to live. So, the first prehistoric family sets off into the world in search of a safer place to call home. When they discover an idyllic walled-in paradise that meets all their needs, they think their problems are solved … except for one thing. Another family already lives there: the Bettermans.

The Bettermans — with their elaborate tree house, amazing inventions and irrigated acres of fresh produce — are a couple of steps above the Croods on the evolutionary ladder. When they take the Croods in as the world’s first houseguests, it isn’t long before tensions escalate between the cave family and the modern family.

Just when all seems lost, a new threat will propel both families on an epic adventure outside the safety of the wall, one that will force them to embrace their differences, draw strength from each other and forge a future together.

The Croods 2: A New Age is directed by Joel Crawford and written by Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman. It features the voices of Nicolas Cage (Grug), Catherine Keener (Ugga), Emma Stone (Eep), Ryan Reynolds (Guy), Clark Duke  (Thunk) and Cloris Leachman (Gran). New cast includes Peter Dinklage (Phil Betterman), Leslie Mann (Hope Betterman) and Kelly Marie Tran (Dawn).
