Over October frontman bares accident on Christmas Day; gets discharged and engaged on New Year's Eve
"From tragedy to the happiest moment of my life."
The last week of 2024 was a wild ride for Josh Buizon, the frontman of OPM band Over October, as he got into a vehicular accident on Christmas Day but was fortunately discharged on New Year's Eve. He then capped 2024 off with a much-desired proposal to his girlfriend.
"I almost died on Christmas Day," he said in an Instagram post on Jan. 1. "I got into a vehicular accident on the highway and spent Christmas night in the hospital."
Buizon said he fractured his left wrist in 13 places, injured his lungs, and suffered a few sprains, scratches, and bruises.
Ahead of his accident, Buizon planned to propose to his girlfriend, Thea Panaguiton, on New Year's Eve. He had already organized the ring in advance and asked her family for their blessing on Christmas Eve.
This, he said, made the situation "even more tragic."
"But God made it all work out," Buizon said. "He gave me a second chance at life."
"My surgery went well, and I was discharged on New Year’s Eve. That same night, I got to propose to Thea," he added.
Buizon said he's doing much better now, even as he noted in jest how he typed the caption with one finger.
"From tragedy to the happiest moment of my life, my last week of 2024 felt like a movie. I nearly lost everything, but instead, I gained forever," he said. "Kicking off 2025 with my beautiful fiancée… and my New Year’s resolution: 'pay medical bills.'"
Panaguiton also shared photos of her and Buizon in a separate post.

Formed in 2014, Over October comprises Buizon (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Joshua Caleb Lua (lead guitar), Anton Rodriguez (rhythm guitar), Joric Conlas (bass), and Janessa Geronimo (drums).
The band is known for the songs Ikot, Kaakit-akit, and Intertwine with The Ridleys.
