Anne Hathaway says 'Princess Diaries 3' is 'moving in the right direction'
Shut. Up. Anne Hathaway just dropped an update on The Princess Diaries 3.
During a recent visit to SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, host Andy Cohen asked Hathaway the question on every fan's mind: "Where are we at on Princess Diaries 3?"
“I’m busy making baby No. 3 and that has sort of taken the place of knowing exactly when I can make Princess Diaries 3,” Hathaway, who is pregnant with her third baby with husband Adam Shulman, said.
She revealed there’s been a bit of a story breakthrough, sharing that the movie is finally "moving in the right direction."
"The script that we were working on—we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one,” she added.
In May, Adele Lim, who is set to direct the upcoming installment, shared what fans can look forward to from the new chapter in Mia Thermopolis' story.
"We just want to make the story right because it is a franchise that is so beloved by so many people," Lim said in an interview with Variety.
She teased that fans can "look forward to a lot of fun returns."
Lim added, "We’re going to be able to shoot in Europe and really show the audience Genovia in its full glory."
The 2001 film The Princess Diaries follows average teenager Mia Thermopolis as she finds out that she's of royal blood and is set to take the throne of the fictional land of Genovia. Her grandmother, Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews), teaches her princess—and life—lessons before Mia eventually takes over the land in the second film.
Hathaway previously confirmed that she is set to reprise her character for The Princess Diaries 3. However, it is not yet known whether Andrews or Chris Pine, who plays Mia's love interest in the second film, will also return for the sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter reported last month that Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries, shared that she has read the "amazing" script.
"I told them not to send anymore, because I love it so much. I have a problem keeping my mouth shut," she said. "I’m very happy with what I’ve read so far, but there’s definitely some book things that were involved in the last script I read."
