LOOK: There’s a Pinoy Komiks inspired 2D Art Cafe in Bulacan

Looking for a unique and distinctly Filipino cafe for your next milk tea fix?

Check out this newly opened 2D Art Cafe in Bulacan that takes inspiration from classic Pinoy Komiks.

Residents and visitors of the town of San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan can step into the pages of vintage comic strips in real life at Komiks 2D Art Cafe, a newly opened milk tea shop.

Instead of the typical black-and-white look of 2D Art Cafes popularized in South Korea, this particular cafe is painted in bright green and yellow shades reminiscent of local komiks of old like Pinoy FUNNY Komiks and Kenkoy, considered icons of Pinoy pop culture.

Opened just last March 12, 2021, Komiks 2D Art Cafe was painted by Ralph Pangilinan, the same artist that worked on Kurimi Milk Tea Bar, another popular 2D Art Cafe, similar to South Korean cafes seen in To All the Boys: Always and Forever.

The 25-year-old visual artist painted the cafe in floor-to-ceiling comic strip murals, to create an optical illusion of a 2D fictional world, that guests can immerse themselves in.

As featured on the Facebook page of Philippine Star, the artist said he wanted to showcase Filipino artistry through his signature mural art and create a space that both kids and adults can appreciate and enjoy.

“Nag-practice ako ng husto sa paggawa ng mural art at nag-isip ng mga kakaibang mural art na gagawin para pumatok sa maraming tao na maaring ding ipagmalaki maging sa ibang bansa. Upang mas patunayan ang kagalingan ng Pinoy artists pagdating sa larangan ng sining," said Pangilingan.

The muralist shared that he began his interest in making murals back in 2019 and wanted to make a mural that would leave a mark locally and internationally.

According to the cafe's official Facebook page, they serve various flavors of milk tea, including crowd favorites like Wintermelon, Okinawa, and Taro, as well as a "Signature Series," like White Rabbit, Salted Caramel, and their Komiks Signature milk tea drink.

They also have Fruit Teas, Iced Coffees, and Frappuccinos along with a selection of budget-friendly snacks and desserts like cheesecakes,  donuts, pizza, nachos, fries and takoyaki, and more.

Komiks 2D Art Cafe is located in JUMPH Building, Caltex-Tungkong Mangga in front of SM San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
