Pixar drops teaser trailer for upcoming film 'Elemental'

By John Patrick Magno Ranara Published Nov 18, 2022 1:31 pm

Get your tissues ready as Pixar has just released the official teaser of its upcoming animated film Elemental.

The short preview attempts to answer the question, "What if air, earth, wind, and fire have feelings?" as it shows a young fire woman board a train filled with passengers all made up of the various elements—there are clouds carrying suitcases, a water resident putting on lipstick, and there are even babies made out of earth popping out of their pots.

Set in a city where residents of the different elements co-exist, the film centers on the odd friendship between Ember, a being of fire who is tough and sharp-witted and Wade, a water element who enjoys life by just going with the flow.

Despite their many differences, the two learn that they have much more common than they thought and develop a close connection, which challenges Ember's beliefs about the world they live in.

The film is directed by Peter Sohn, who is no stranger to Pixar films as he previously served as an animator and story artist for Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and WALL-E.

Lending their voices for the film are Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade respectively.

In a statement when the film was first announced, Sohn said that he got his inspiration for the story from his love of studying science as a child.

"You get the view of the periodic table of elements, and I always saw those as apartments. I made jokes about popping carbon next to nickel, but they don’t trust one another," he said.

He further added that he also got some ideas from his experience growing up in New York City as the son of Korean immigrants.

“My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx. We were among many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams, all of us mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to Elemental," he said.

Elemental is set to release in theaters on June 16 next year.
