'Come From Away' announces sign language-interpreted performance for one of its Manila shows

Musicals are expanding their reach by integrating sign language, ensuring that deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences can fully experience and enjoy live performances. One show, for instance, is adding a sign language-interpreted performance for one of its performances.

On June 27 at 8 p.m., the award-winning musical Come From Away will feature a special performance interpreted in Filipino Sign Language.

This is in collaboration with the Filipino Sign Language Deaf consultants and interpreters of Benilde Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf and the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies - Interpreting Education Program.

“At GMG Productions, we believe that theatre should be for everyone,” said Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions. “We’re committed to building a more inclusive audience by creating opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the magic of live performance. This FSL interpreted show, and collaborating closely with the Benilde FSL interpreting team, is one of the many steps we’re taking to make that vision a reality.”

To ensure the best possible experience for deaf audience members and their companions, a dedicated orchestra seating section has been set aside. This area has a clear view of the interpreter. You can access these seats and receive a 20% discount by using the promo code ACCESSSEATS.

On top of that, those with a valid PWD card can also avail of the standard PWD discount when purchasing tickets at physical TicketWorld outlets.

Come From Away tells the true story of the residents and guests of Gander, Newfoundland, in the week after the September 11 attacks. When 38 planes carrying around 7,000 passengers were unexpectedly diverted to Gander International Airport, the locals opened their homes to the stranded travelers.

Come From Away runs until June 29 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.

Tickets are exclusively available via TicketWorld, starting at P900.
