'Supergirl is gay' trends on Twitter as fans anticipate season finale

With a few episodes left before Supergirl's season 6 finale, the term "Supergirl is gay" trended online as fans clamor for the show to finally make "Supercorp" canon.

For those who aren't familiar with the series, Supercorp is a ship between Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), a.k.a. Kara Danvers, and Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath). Since the two characters were introduced in season 2, they've become best friends but fans have been hoping that their relationship would blossom into something more.

Kara and Lena's relationship has been a major focus of the show for quite some time now (and the subject of many Supergirl fanfiction). Last season, their relationship was strained when Lena went on a supervillainy road after discovering that Kara was secretly Supergirl.

In season 6, the two mend their fractured relationship and fans are hoping the show will finally make the romance between Supercorp canon.

Others are calling for the show to stop queerbaiting and just confirm the romance brewing between Kara and Lena. Queerbaiting is when TV shows, movies, and other media hint at same-sex romance or LGBTQ+ representation, but do not actually confirm or depict it onscreen.

Supergirl's season 6 finale will air on Nov. 2, 2021.
