Olivia Munn, Danny Ramirez join ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’
AMC recently revealed several new additions to the cast of the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff series, Tales of the Walking Dead.
The network announced over the weekend that Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse, The Newsroom) and Danny Ramirez (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier) are joining the highly-awaited new series set in The Walking Dead universe.
In addition to Munn and Ramirez, those who are also onboard to appear in the upcoming project are Loan Chabanol, Embeth Davidtz, and Jessie T. Usher.
The newest additions will join previously announced cast members including Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Anthony Edwards and Poppy Liu.
First announced in 2021, the AMC Studios-produced episodic anthology will debut this year on AMC and AMC Plus. The spinoff series consists of six original, standalone stories focused on both new and established characters within the walker apocalypse.
The new spinoff series is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of the Walking Dead Universe, along with The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead writer-producer Channing Powell, who is also serving as showrunner.
“Olivia, Danny, Loan, Embeth, and Jessie are the latest massive talents that will bring new worlds of TWD to life with big, daring, different, emotional, shocking, scary, and crazy stories. We’re excited for them to come walk with us,” said Gimple.
“Somehow we have lucked into the greatest cast — Olivia, Jessie, Embeth, Danny, Loan… We’ve been hoping these episodes will feel like unique, little films and with this range of actors, we are well on our way,” Powell said.
Apart from her stint as Psylocke in the 2016 superhero film, Munn also starred in Netflix's romantic comedy Love, Wedding, Repeat and crime thriller The Gateway. Munn recently starred in Violet, a critically acclaimed indie drama written and directed by Justine Bateman.
Last year, Ramirez appeared in Disney Plus’/Marvel’s The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, as Joaquin Torres. He will next star opposite Tom Cruise in Paramount’s highly anticipated tentpole Top Gun: Maverick and Netflix’s dual timeline drama, Plus/Minus.
Chabanol previously starred in John Turturro’s comedy, Fading Gigolo, alongside Woody Allen and Turturro. She was later cast in Third Person, a romantic drama written and directed by Paul Haggis.
Meanwhile, Davidtz credits include Old, Ray Donovan, Mad Men, In Treatment, Californication, The Amazing Spiderman, Matilda, and Schindler’s List.
Usher, on the other hand, stars in the titular role of JJ Shaft opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree. He recently co-starred in Shaft, written by Kenya Barris and directed by Tim Story.
As for the flagship show, AMC earlier announced that its popular zombie series will end with an expanded 24-episode eleventh season this year.
Although the TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s zombie epic is coming to an end, fans of the groundbreaking series will be treated with a brand new spin off starring the crossbow-weilding Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) which will premiere in 2023. Current showrunner Angela Kang will oversee the upcoming project.
The Walking Dead first premiered in 2010 and immediately garnered a cult following across the globe.
