Junji Ito's ‘Uzumaki’ releases eerie first-look trailer

Buckle your seatbelts: Adult Swim’s Uzumaki has released its first look trailer.

Inspired by the 1998 spine-tingling manga series by Japanese comic writer Junji ito, Uzumaki is set to be a 4-part animated series following the citizens from the fictional town of Kurôzu-cho—and the spiral patterns that trigger a gruesome chain of events.

The trailer opens with a message from director Hiroshi Nagahami updating fans on the progress of the anime adaptation, urging them to be more patient as the series has been delayed for an October 2022 release rather than its initial 2021 drop.

The show’s sneak-peek itself starts at the 1:30 mark, as viewers witness a black-and-white hand-drawn scene reminiscent of Ito’s manga style and a woman beginning to chronicle the story of Kurôzu-cho. The scene is then abruptly cut by Nagahami explaining that a brief clip is only what they can show at the moment, but promises more to come.

“Don't get me wrong, it's not like this is all we have done so far," he jokes.

“There are lots of scary and grotesque scenes. There are so many clips with spoilers in them. Therefore, we hope to be able to share more clips down the road without revealing too much of the content."

“We are doing our very best to make it happen.”
