Filipinos warned vs 'Netflix phishing' scam

A computer emergency response team warned the public from a phishing scheme that targets subscribers of streaming platforms.

In a Facebook post, the Cyber Security Philippines - CERT claimed that hackers are using fake websites resembling the template of Netflix in a bid to lure customers into handing over their credit card details. It said that the criminal elements are targeting mobile users through emails.

“Be warned that an almost realistic phishing campaign is circulating via e-mail and is mainly targeting and focused on mobile users,” the group said.

“To be safe open your e-mails via browser apps and not via mobile option so you would see exactly where those "subscription or payment e-mails are coming from,” they added.

In order to prevent being hacked, Netflix has advised its subscribers who received a suspicious email not to click or open any of the attachments. Netflix said that users can forward the email to [email protected] and delete it afterwards.

For those who accidentally clicked the link, the next course of action is to change their password to a new and unique one while those who accidentally provided their personal information should contact their financing institution as it may have been compromised.
