Pop Mart opens Pride Month pop-up store at SM Mall of Asia
There are few things that can get me out of bed way too early on a Sunday morning. And, it turns out, a Pop Mart pop-up store opening is one of them.
To celebrate Pride Month, Pop Mart Philippines launched the Pop Mart Pop Your Colors pop-up at the SM Mall of Asia. It will be open until August.
This is actually Pop Mart’s second Mall of Asia pop-up, with the original still running at the North Entertainment Mall.
Pucky takes centerstage at the Pop Your Colors pop-up, something I am happy about as a long-time Pucky fan. Created by Korean artist Pucky, the adorable character is named after the Shakespearean sprite Puck.
Highlighted at the pop-up is the Pride-inspired release Pucky Love Across Galaxies Figure, which lights up. The Pop Your Colors pop-up is also the only place in the country where you can get the fluffy and colorful Pucky Love Across Galaxies Series Vinyl Plush Blister Pack.
I spotted Drag Race Philippines Season 2 winner Captivating Katkat at the Pop Your Colors pop-up opening. The drag queen is a self-confessed Pop Mart “super fan.”
All it took was one visit to the first pop-up store at Mall of Asia. “My friends invited me to go. I never thought I’d get into it. ‘Pag pasok ko, hala, ang cute. Sobrang na-in love ako.”
Her first purchase? A full set of Skullpanda blind boxes. “Isang box agad,” Captivating Katkat said, laughing. She hasn’t stopped buying collectibles since then. Her favorites are Skullpanda and Labubu.
At the opening of the Pop Mart Pop Your Colors pop-up, she wore a fabulous outfit in the colors of the trans flag that incorporated Hacipupu and Labubu figures.
Captivating Katkat loves how Pop Mart makes her feel like a kid again. “Yung happiness mo nung bata ka nafu-fulfill ulit. It’s for my inner child.”
It’s been an exciting year for Pop Mart Philippines. There are now three permanent stores in the country—at SM Megamall, SM North Edsa and SM Aura. “We’re opening another permanent store before the year ends in Glorietta,” said Mishen Samonte, Pop Mart Philippines’ head of marketing. According to her, there are new releases at the stores each week.
Pop Mart is also expanding its reach in other parts of the country. “We now have a pop-up in Cebu. We’re starting to go outside Metro Manila. On July 3, we’re opening a pop-up in Davao,” Mishen said.
