Watch Nicolas Cage shout expletives as he explores the ‘History of Swear Words’

It's the history lesson you didn't know you needed, and there's no better host to shed light on the taboo topic.

Actor Nicolas Cage will host History of Swear Words, a documentary series about the origins of profanity which will be airing on Netflix right in time to start the new year.

The six-episode series takes an educational approach to widely used expletives, diving deep into their origins, pop culture usage, and the science and cultural impact of swear words used around the world. In each 20-minute episode, Cage will conduct interviews with historians, entertainers and experts in etymology and pop culture.

The series will feature a lot of celebrities and, of course, a lot of swearing to uncover the origins of curse words like “f*ck,” “sh*t,” “b*tch,” and more. Guest stars in the upcoming series include comedians like Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Baron Vaughn, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

The Netlix series is produced by Funny or Die and B17 Entertainment, while Bellamie Blackstone serves as the showrunner and an executive producer.

Check out the expletive-filled trailer below which starts with the dapperly dressed Cage standing up from his seat and screaming the F-bomb at the top of his lungs, which is a pretty good indication of what the show is all about.

The trailer says it all. Throw in some Cage insanity, and it sounds like we're all in for a wildly educational history lesson. The History of Swear Words will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 5, 2021.
