LIST: New museums, exhibits to visit this October

This October, have a chill yet enriching weekend gala with your friends or by yourself by going to museums.

Visiting museums is one way to explore not just the culture and the history of artifacts and artworks holds, it is also a way to get to know more about yourself by seeing different perspectives attached to art.  

In celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, some newly launched museums and other old ones are holding exhibits for you to enjoy. Check them out below. 

Metropolitan Museum of Manila  

In celebration of Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE), the Metropolitan Museum in Bonifacio Global City houses a month-long exhibition. Sibol showcases the award-winning works of its artists and how contemporary art styles have changed over the past four decades.

The exhibit will run until Oct. 19. Admission is free. 

The M is located at MK Tan Centre, 30th Street corner 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Recently opened its doors last June 9, Centro de Turismo in Intramuros offers an immersive and interactive museum experience.

It is situated at the site of the former San Ignacio Church, which was destroyed during the Battle of Manila, and houses historical artifacts and exhibits to bring and educate its visitors from the Philippines’ pre-colonial era, Spanish colonization, World War II, and its future development.

While it noted on its website that it is closed to the public until further notice due to maintenance works, you might as well save this museum on your list for your next weekend trip.  

Centro de Turismo is located inside the former San Ignacio Church, Intramuros, Manila. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Newly launched in 2023, the Menarco Vertical Museum on 32nd St., in BGC is home to 39 artworks of Filipino contemporary artists, which are featured across communal space on the 32 floors of Menarco Tower. 

The duration of the guided tour will be 45 minutes to one hour. Admission is free, but you must book your slot in advance. Check the available schedules here.

Menarco Tower is located at 32nd Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. 

Ayala Museum  

Ayala Museum has an ongoing exhibition titled, Zóbel: The Future of the Past, which is an iteration of its 2022 exhibition at the Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain. It will have 200 objects, such as paintings, sketchbooks, photos, films, and more which will help visitors learn more about the artistic journey of Spanish-Filipino artist Fernando Zóbel.

The regular admission rate is at P450 for the Zobel exhibit only, if you want to see other exhibits, you may purchase tickets at P750. Book your tickets here. 

For young art enthusiasts, there are four-day programs that offer an immersive experience to visitors where they can create their own onsite exhibition project.

Visitors will be taught about learning basic art handling, exhibition planning, to managing their own exhibition projects. The program options are Basic Oil Painting, Basic Exhibition Managing, and Basic Art Journaling, which will be held every Saturday, from Oct. 13, 20, and 27, to Nov. 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  

The program is open to ages 12 to 19 years old and costs P4,000, inclusive of museum admission, a guided tour, one teen lab workshop, workshop materials, snacks, and more. Learn more about the program here

Ayala Museum is located at Greenbelt Park, Makati Avenue, corner Dela Rosa Street, Ayala Center, Makati City. It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For a chill solo/barkada/romantic date, check out the MO_Space in Taguig. They have an ongoing exhibition dubbed, These Acts, ____ which will be open until Oct. 13. 

The exhibit, curated by Eya Beldia, will feature thought-provoking works from visual artists including Micaela Benedicto, Rhaz Oriente, Kristen Cain, Gab Ferrer, and Fara Manuel, among others.

MO_Space is located on the 3rd floor, MOs Design Bldg, B2 9th Avenue, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig City. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
