Amazon Prime Video has announced that a Tomb Raider live-action series is in the works, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as its executive producer and writer.

The upcoming show will be based on the video game franchise on the adventures of archaeologist Lara Croft. It will be produced by Amazon together with the game's developer Crystal Dynamics.

"If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she'd explode," Waller-Bridge said in a statement. "Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators."

The Fleabag creator also shared that she loves Lara Croft.

"Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can't wait to go on this adventure. Bats 'n all," she said.

Waller-Bridge is no stranger to action-adventure films and shows as she scripted N Time to Die in 2021 and starred in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

There's no news yet as to who will play the titular character but Amazon is gearing up to begin a worldwide casting search for an actress.

The Tomb Raider announcement comes after Prime Video's successful TV adaptation of Fallout

ICYDK, the first Tomb Raider video game was released in 1996 for PC, PlayStation 1, and Sega Saturn. Several other titles have been outed for consoles including, Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Tomb Raider Reloaded.

The game has also been turned into films a couple of times with one iteration starring Angelina Jolie (2001 and 2003) and the other with Alicia Vikander (2018).

In addition to the film, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games are also working on a multiplatform Tomb Raider game.
