Everything we know so far about the rumored PS5 Pro
A couple of months after announcing the PS5 Slim, it looks like Sony is working on another version of their next-gen gaming console.
Leaks involving the PlayStation 5 Pro or PS5 Pro have surfaced and industry insiders say the new console could be out by September 2024. As a pro device, the upcoming console is also expected to tout improvements such as more graphics rendering power compared to the 2020 version.
The biggest rumor reveals that the PS5 Pro will feature Sony's proprietary system for frame generation—something akin to NVIDIA's deep learning super sampling (DLSS), which improves gaming visuals by keeping resolution high.
According to gaming insider Jeff Grubb, Sony's DLSS uses machine learning enabling the PS5 Pro to "improve images so they can run things at a really high resolution and really high frame rate." Currently, the PS5 is capable of 4K at 60 frames per second (fps) but Tom's Guide says the Pro version could be able to run at 120 fps.
Another report from Exputer also found that Sony filed a patent for a dynamic difficulty system, which can adjust a game's difficulty based on the skill level of a player in real-time. The patent said that the system can affect in-game factors like a character's speed or strength, the number of enemies, and the difficulty of enemy AI.
As for specs, rumors say the PS5 Pro will have an AMD Zen 2 CPU, Radeon custom RDNA3 GPU, and 16GB DDR6 memory. Meanwhile, the console's price is said to be set at $499 (~P28,000), the same cost as the PS5 in its 2020 launch.
PS5 Pro specs have seemingly been passed around.
