Samsung's Galaxy Z series got more tricks this year!
On July 10, the tech giant unveiled its latest foldable phones and wearable gadgets in Paris, France at its Galaxy Unpacked event.
Spec sheet
The new line of phones introduced include the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, which got a slight design makeover as the edges of the Fold got less rounded. Both phones are also equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which according to Samsung, makes this new line its most durable foldable yet.
In addition to design upgrades, the new Galaxy Z series is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and 12GB of RAM.
On the Galaxy Z Fold6, there are a total of five cameras—a triple rear camera composed of 12MP ultra-wide, 50MP wide-angle, and 10MP telephoto lenses, a 4MP under-display camera, and a 10MP camera on the cover screen.
Its Dynamic AMOLED display, when unfolded, measures 7.6 inches with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. When folded, you're greeted by the 6.3-inch cover display which also has the same 120Hz refresh rate.
This phone also comes with 4,400mAh battery and IP48 water resistance.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip6, which opens like a clamshell, has a dual rear camera composed of a 12MP ultra-wide and a 50MP wide-angle shooter and a 10MP selfie camera.
Unfolded, it has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, and when closed, there's a 3.4-inch cover screen.
Battery capacity is slightly smaller than its sibling at 4,000mAh, but it has the same IP48 water resistance.
Galaxy AI
But more than their chic look, the highlights of these devices are their Galaxy AI capabilities, which can help you express your creativity and take on daily tasks.
Like the Galaxy S24, the new Galaxy Z series phones come with Circle to Search, which lets you get instant search results for whatever you see on your screen with a long press of the home button.
The Fold6 also boasts upgrades to the Interpreter app which comes in handy when traveling abroad. This feature has a new conversation mode that lets whoever you're talking to see translations from the cover screen—no need to twist your wrist to show your phone. The app also lets you translate lectures or presentations in real-time.
With generative AI being a trend in tech, Samsung's Galaxy AI hops on with functions such as Sketch to Image and Composer.
Sketch to Image lets you add elements to a photo by simply drawing—you can add a hat or a cat to your scene with the AI.
Meanwhile, Composer handles basic writing functions for emails or social media captions. You can change the tone if you want to be more casual or professional.
For photos, Galaxy AI gets features like Portrait Studio which allows you to add different styles to your photos. You can turn yourself into a 3D cartoon or add a watercolor effect to your picture.
On the Galaxy Flip6, its FlexCam gets functions that will come in handy for solo shoots. There's a new Auto Zoom feature that automatically finds the best framing for your photo—even if you're a few feet away, it will automatically keep you in the shot.
More than offering live views of your photos, the cover screen also now offers suggested replies so you can reply to messages without opening your phone.
