Andi Eigenmann honors late mother Jaclyn Jose with palm leaf tattoo

What did Andi Eigenmann get on her tattoo date with partner Philmar Alipayo? In her recent ink session, she paid tribute to her late mother, veteran actress Jaclyn Jose.

In an Instagram post, the former actress flaunted her palm leaf tattoo for her mother.

"Finally got my palm leaf in honor of my nanay, just days before her 1st death anniversary. Indicative of multiple meanings all relating to the facets of her being that I would also like to embody," Andi said. 

For Andi, the tattoo held a special significance reflecting Jaclyn's multifaceted persona, which has shaped her into a mother and an artist. She added that this tribute was her way of carrying forward the values and lessons her mother instilled.

One of these is Jaclyn's strength, which always reminds her to be strong despite life's blows. Andi also noted that the late actress's strength is the "most admirable thing about her." 

Moreover, Andi underscored that her tattoo also symbolizes her mother's victory. 

"Growing up was special, witnessing someone firsthand, constantly refining her craft, always striving for excellence in doing what she loved most. Her dedication to evolving in her art was a testament to her passion." 

She continued, "What a privilege to have this woman as my mother. She won many [accolades] for this, and the first [A]sian Palm d'Or winner for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival so far, is just one of them. I'll always cherish this moment, and the fact that she chose to share this with me." 

Andi also implied that just like a palm tree, which, according to ancient Egypt, symbolizes immortality, Jaclyn's memory remains eternal and "will always and forever live" in her. 

"In almost one year of mourning her loss, of going through this grief, I would always get lost in my head figuring out the best way to honor my mother. Recently I've come to realize that there is no better way than to take a good look at this life that she gave me, the best gift she could give, and to continue to treasure and cherish it by living it the best way I know how. Just as she would always want me to." 

Last Oct. 21, Andi remembered her mother's birthday by posting a throwback photo of her younger self and her mom on Instagram with a white dove emoji as her caption.

Together with their relatives, she visited Jaclyn's memorial nine days before the actress's birthday and reposted a poem about a child longing for her late mother.

Mary Jane Guck, better known as Jaclyn Jose, passed away last Mar. 2, 2024, due to a myocardial infarction or heart attack. She was 60.
