Content creator Davao Conyo takes a stand against content that 'make fun of others' amid Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings controversy
Content creator Philip Hernandez, also known as Davao Conyo, condemned clout-chasing content amid Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings' cheating controversy.
In a now-expired IG story, Hernandez aired his thoughts regarding the issue after being asked by a social media user to make an entry about it. Hernandez, who is known for his comedic skits where he transforms into various nameless characters, said that content that make fun of others for the sake of quick views is one of the "lowest, lazy and malicious forms of content."
"Ante, hindi maganda yang pinagtatawan ang may pinagdadaaanan. Sana 'di mo ma-experience," he began. "[M]aking fun of others for the sake of quick views is one of the lowest form[s] of content. It's lazy and malicious."
According to him, it is distasteful to create content specifically targeted at a person who made a mistake.
"Gets ko when [we] make things lighter through humor, or when we make other people accountable [for] their actions especially people in power, but when it's specifically targeted towards someone who made a mistake (and mind you, we all do!) it's off-putting."
He continued, "Shaming a mistake is different from shaming an evil person."
Hernandez, who, as of writing, has more than 3.7 million followers on Facebook, urged the public to be "very careful" of "people who take advantage of other people's shame," as these types of people "will do the same to you if you were in the same situation."
Social media users commended Hernandez for his intelligence and sensible approach.
"In situations like these, you can clearly recognize people with genuine intelligence, high EQ, and class... not just someone pretending to be smart while desperately chasing clout," one user said.
Another X user called Hernandez "the smartest, wittiest, funniest, most sensible and most discerning content creator of the Philippines."
"Kaya super bet ko yan si Davao Conyo, funny na pero iba and pagka intelligent. Bihira yan ngayon sa mga content creators," wrote one more.
On Tuesday night, Dec. 3, Jennings' ex-girlfriend Jamela Villanueva posted a series of Instagram stories revealing the actor's alleged affair with his on-screen partner Racal. The posts, which quickly went viral, included screenshots of texts exchanged by the love team.
The two alluded to having to delete messages and wanting to spend more time together. Villanueva's screenshots started in June, a few weeks before Racal publicly admitted that her relationship with her then-boyfriend Rico Blanco was over. Jennings, meanwhile, confirmed his breakup with Villanueva in late November after being together for almost seven years.
Jennings and Racal became on-screen partners in the 2023 romance series Can't Buy Me Love, where they played Snoop and Irene, respectively. They are also starring in the upcoming action drama series Incognito, which is set to premiere on Jan. 20, 2025.
