Ate Gay diagnosed with stage 4 cancer: 'Wala raw lunas'
Beloved comedy icon Ate Gay revealed that he is confronting a life-threatening stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
Speaking with Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, the 54-year-old comedian, who gained fame for impersonating Nora Aunor, opened up about his illness, sharing how he first learned about it.
"Parang beke lang siya noon. Hindi pantay ang mukha ko. Sabi ng mga kasama ko sa work, 'Hindi pantay ang mukha mo, pa-check mo 'yan,'" he told the magazine show.
"Nagpa-ultra sound ako at nagpa-CT scan. After CT scan, magpa-biopsy daw ako. Ang findings nu’ng una, benign. Nagpa-second opinion ako," he added.
After doing a show in Canada at an unspecified time, the cancer underneath his right ear got bigger and began to bleed continuously.
"Mahirap ngayon ang lagay ko. May kanser ako, stage 4 daw. Magtatagal ba ang buhay ko? Ang sabi, hindi na daw ako aabutin ng 2026," Ate Gay said.
"Kaya ang sakit-sakit sa akin. Hindi na rin daw ako puwedeng operahan. Wala raw lunas. Masakit sa akin. Halos araw-araw umiiyak ako. Hindi naman ako nagkulang kay Lord," he lamented.
Ate Gay then referenced Aunor's iconic line in Himala as she shared that he is now hoping for a miracle.
"Although lagi kong sinasabi na walang himala. Kailangan ko po ng dasal. Kailangan ko po ng lakas at sana po makayanan ko ang araw-araw kong buhay sa ngayon," he said.
In the comments section, many took the time to shower him with supportive comments.
"I have two cancers right now, stage 3 colon and stage 4 esophageal. I surrendered it all to the Lord. I am also a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor for 18 years. Nothing is impossible kay Lord. Wag ka sumuko, laban lang," one user said.
Another commented, "Totally surrender your life to Jesus, turn your back away from the sinful self then pray for the miracle of healing. Nothing is impossible to Jesus, pray for your total healing and fast recovery, physical, emotional and spiritual."
According to Healthline, Stage 4 cancer is the most advanced stage of a malignant disease, where the cancer has spread beyond its original location into nearby organs or other distant parts of the body. The illness is typically treated through chemotherapy.
Apart from his impersonations of Nora Aunor, Ate Gay is also loved for his hilarious song mash-ups and appearances in shows such as Eat Bulaga, Wowowillie, Celebrity Bluff, and more.
