LOOK: Kim Chiu's Seoul International Drama Awards gown mixes Filipino, Korean styles

Kim Chiu looked pretty in pink at the 2024 Seoul International Drama Awards.

Donning a pink gown by Francis Libiran, the actress attended the South Korean awards show on Sept. 25 representing the Philippines as a recipient of the Outstanding Asian Star Award.

In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, Kim's stylist Adrianne Concepcion said that the former's SDA look is a subtle nod to her Filipino roots while incorporating the "distinct soft Korean style."

"We collaborated with Francis Libiran and he was able to masterfully create a look that's of a modern interpretation of the Filipiniana," Concepcion said.

Libiran's gown is a creative take on the contemporary Filipiniana—its oversized architectural one-shoulder is an interpretation of the classic butterfly sleeve.

Meanwhile, the gown's chiffon layers pay homage to the understated softness characteristic of soft Korean design, as noted by Concepcion.

"Albeit not literal, and [the gown is] also palatable to the Korean audience- ethereal, soft, and feminine."

"The delicate hues of the dress, nude and blush, and the soft layers of chiffon create the understated and feminine elegance that red carpet Korean style is known for," the stylist added.

'I'm in absolute disbelief and beyond grateful'

On Instagram, the Linlang star expressed her gratitude for achieving this milestone.

"I'm in absolute disbelief and beyond grateful to attend this kind of international award-giving body. It feels surreal, like a dream I haven't quite woken up from," she wrote in the caption.

"I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who believed in me, supported me, and helped make this possible. This moment is something I will cherish forever," Kim added.

In a separate post, she also expressed her honor of representing the country in the SDA.

"Beyond grateful to be recognized as the Most Outstanding Asian Star at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2024."

"[I am] honored to represent the Philippines on this incredible stage! Thank you, AbsCbn, @starmagicphils, @dreamscapeph #Linlang family, and to all my supporters," Kim continued.

In July, the Kapamilya actress announced that she won Outstanding Asian Star at this year's SDA.

Kim is recognized for her stunning portrayal of Juliana Lualhati in Linlang, in which she co-starred with Paulo Avelino and JM de Guzman.

According to Seoul Drama, the Outstanding Asian Star winner is determined through voting among actors "who have excelled in dramas over the past year." The poll ran via Idol Champ from June 15 to July 14.

Kim bested famous Asian faces in the category, including Thailand's Blue Pongtiwat Tangwancharoen (Ready, Set, Love), Korea's Poompat Iam-samang (Start-Up), Malaysia's Emily Chan, Singapore's Desmond Tan, and Indonesia's Ochi Rosdiana.

Prior to Kim, Kathryn Bernardo was the sixth Filipino celebrity to win the award. In 2022, Belle Mariano made history by becoming the first Filipina to win the award and earn the same recognition.
