Jeongyeon parts ways with JYP Entertainment, but remains as member of TWICE
Jeongyeon is saying goodbye to JYP Entertainment after years with the agency, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief as she clarified that she will continue to be a member of her girl group TWICE.
In a letter posted on her Instagram account, the South Korean singer said she is leaving the agency as she wants to "try to make a new beginning somewhere else."
"Leaving a place that I’m familiar with is frightening, but having the members and ONCE, who have always believed in me, gave me the courage to take this step," she said in her translated message.
"To our members and ONCE, whom I can’t express enough gratitude toward with words, and to everyone at JYP who helped me grow, I sincerely want to say thank you," she added. ONCE is the official name for TWICE's fans.
Despite her departure, Jeongyeon underscored that her being a member of the group remains unchanged.
"Although I’m moving to a new home and beginning a new challenge, TWICE, which is the greatest center of my life, will remain unchanged just as it is now. As a member of TWICE, standing in front of ONCE will always be my first priority," the girl group member said.
"I will sincerely put my heart into every step forward—from continuing my journey as the Jeongyeon of TWICE whom you have loved, to the new challenges that Jeongyeon will face in the future—and I will prepare for each one step by step.
She ended her message by thanking her supporters for believing in her all this time and for always staying by her side.
"We still have so much time ahead of us to create together, so I will work hard to fill those precious moments with even more beautiful memories," Jeongyeon said.
The K-pop star debuted as a member of TWICE under JYP Entertainment in 2015 along with Nayeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. They have since released hit songs such as Cheer Up, TT, What Is Love?, Fancy, and Feel Special.
