Janno Gibbs claps back at critic who questioned Japan trip after dad Ronaldo Valdez’s passing
Janno Gibbs addressed a critic who took a swipe at him for going on vacation, a few weeks after his dad, Ronaldo Valdez, passed away.
Janno shared a vacation pic on Instagram which shows his family posing by the Mario theme park and having a blast at Universal Studios.
"Happy New Year from The Gibbs and our extended fam," the singer and actor captioned the post.
The trip comes in the same month his father died. Because of this, Janno's post did not sit well with one social media user, who questioned why he was taking a vacation on the heels of his father's death.
"Your father just passed away," the user wrote.
Janno then typed in a response, "I know. And?" before adding, "You are judging. Shame on you."
Many of the local star's followers flocked to his defense and criticized the user for making assumptions about him.
"This might be their way of honoring their father for reasons we may not understand because we are not a part of their family. Please be kind, he may be showing smiles, but his heart might be broken," one user commented.
Another one wrote, "Your comment was very insensitive and uncalled for. People grieve differently. Where’s your compassion? Please think before you comment on someone’s page."
Others stressed, "Kailangan po ba ipakita sa’yo ng buong pamilya nila kung paano sila nagluluksa behind closed doors or outside of social media? They don’t owe you anything."
After the backlash, the critic penned a statement apologizing to Janno for the insensitive comment.
"I truly apologize. Shame on me for my comments. I just lost my mother and you are all very right. I was wrong and we all grieve differently. And I am not part of the family and Janno does not owe me any," they wrote.
They went on, "Sorry, sorry and sorry. My comments were insensitive. Sorry again. God bless you all. I even prayed about it and really felt so bad about what I said. My apology may not be taken which I do understand but it taught me a lot."
Ronaldo passed away at the age of 76. The veteran actor was found in his room on Sunday, Dec. 17 at around 3 p.m. with a gunshot wound in his head.
Everyone who was with him at home had to undergo paraffin and ballistic tests as part of the standard operating procedure of the investigation into his sudden passing.
The results are yet to be released.
