Tom Cruise to star, perform stunts in Paris Olympics closing ceremony—report

Hollywood action star Tom Cruise is expected to appear at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony on August 11.

Famed for doing his own stunts, the Mission: Impossible actor was reportedly seen pre-filming a segment in March where he skydives over the Hollywood sign.

Reports say that the stunt will be part of the traditional Olympic flag handover bridging Paris to Los Angeles, the host city of the 2028 Summer Games.

While details about the ceremony are kept under wraps, TMZ said that Cruise’s segment will involve him rappelling down Stade de France, the country’s largest stadium, then skydiving down Hollywood, where the actor will pass the flag to Olympians.

A source told TMZ that Cruise approached the International Olympic Committee about performing stunts for the symbolic flag handover. He has been spotted multiple times during the games, including at the opening ceremony along the River Seine on July 26.

This would not be the first time Cruise will take part in the Olympic handover. In 2004, he was a celebrity torchbearer with Sylvester Stallone and Ellen Degeneres in the Los Angeles leg of the global Olympic Torch Relay, where the torch traveled across five continents.

The closing ceremony will take place at the Stade de France, which, the official Olympics website says, “will be transformed into a concert hall.”

Titled “Records” by stage director Thomas Jolly, the show is set to feature “over a hundred performers, acrobats, dancers and circus artists.”
