Yoo In-Na shares love advice as a dating expert in 'True to Love'
They say there’s no single formula in love, but for Yoo In-na’s character Deborah in True to Love, there’s a strategy to win in relationships.
The lovely In-na (Goblin, The Spy Who Loved Me) stars in the latest rom-com K-drama about a renowned dating coach named Deborah, who isn’t exactly winning in her own love story.
In-na shares the screen with Yoon Hyun-min who plays Lee Soo-hyuk, a publishing planner who despises Deborah for suggesting to his then-girlfriend to leave him. Meanwhile, Joo Sang-wook is Han Sang-jin, Soo-hyuk’s business partner who prefers an easygoing lifestyle than deep romantic relationships.
In the drama, In-na's character is a true professional who approaches romance strategically so we wonder whether the True to Love star subscribes to this in real life as well. In an exclusive email interview, In-na answers our querry and more.
PhilSTAR L!fe: Your character Deborah seems to believe that you need to approach romance strategically. Do you believe in that as well? And it's always the ones besides them who can see clearly the situation or the problem.
Yoo In-na: Rather than needing a strategy for romance, I think we should uphold what we need to in a relationship. When anyone falls in love, they can become too emotional, or they can become a fool different from what they are usually like. The only thing that makes you do that is love. So I think sometimes people need harsh advice or realistic consolation from those around them. To protect oneself and to maintain love!
If you're speaking as your character Deborah, what is the top 3 advice you'll give to the singles out there still looking for their soulmates or true loves? Why?
As someone who played a dating expert on camera, we couldn’t help but ask Yoo In-na for some precious love advice.
Yoo In-na: First, if you keep thinking of someone, it could be love. Second, don’t miss out on someone who recognizes your worth. Third, don’t be afraid of breaking up and just love first! Love is valuable in itself and makes life full!
How was the experience working with Yoon Hyun-min and Joo Sang-wook? What's your impression of them?
Yoo In-na: Yoon Hyun-min’s first impression was gentle and kind. I felt Joo Sang-wook was professional and cheerful. Both of them were so funny on set, so it was always full of laughter. I felt that they were trying to be considerate with everything. I was sincerely thankful.
Without spoiling too much, can you talk about any particular scene that the audience should look forward to?
Yoo In-na: The scene where Chan-sung and I fight in front of a garbage truck, it’s a funny, sad, and understandable scene. When I read this part in the script, I couldn't read it anymore and covered it up. In order to control the bubbling emotions of it being funny and sad. I hope the viewers enjoy it too!
K-drama fans in the Philippines love you and your previous role in Goblin. Have you visited the Philippines before? If yes, what are your impressions? Any message to your fans in the Philippines?
Yoo In-na: You love Sunny! Thank you. It's a character that I really love, too! I haven't been to the Philippines yet. I really want to see the sunset in Manila Bay in the Philippines. Also, I want to try various local foods of the Philippines such as adobo, pancit, bibingka, etc. I hope we get a chance to meet after True to Love! Thank you so much for supporting and loving me from the Philippines. I won't forget you and I'll repay you with various activities! Let's meet someday!
True to Love is now streaming on Prime Video with new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday.
