BTS' V says his first solo mixtape will be released 'within the year'
Heads up, BTS V stans! V is releasing his first mixtape this 2022 and, unlike many ARMYs have been speculating, it’ll consist of songs that he has never teased on social media.
V, or Kim Taehyung off-stage, shared the news on March 16, as a reply to his fans’ posts on Korean community app Weverse about the anticipated mixtape.
When one fan asked for the date he will be releasing his solo music, the BTS singer replied, “I’ll release it within the year,” as translated by Koreaboo.
Fans who were both surprised and excited then wondered if the mixtape would include the songs V previously teased on Twitter and Instagram, including one that is titled “Travel with Me.”
To clear the air, the singer-songwriter said that he has already “deleted” the songs right after uploading them.
“All the songs I uploaded are not going on the mixtape, I deleted them after uploading it,” V said. “I apologize in advance, I don’t even remember.”
He said the same for another untitled track he uploaded on Instagram in January: “Since this is recent.. should I look for it in the trash? I wish I hadn’t emptied it.”
In an interview with Rolling Stones in May last year, V said that he was currently producing his mixtape, which was slated for release later that year.
“I originally thought of releasing it last year. But it turned out to be more harder and more complex than I imagined that it would be. So then I thought I would release it early this year. But again, it turned out to be a bit more tough than I thought it would be! So now I’m looking at the end of this year,” V said.
Although that didn’t push through, the K-pop idol assures ARMY that he’s working hard on it, and that it’s certainly worth the wait.
“We’ve worked and made music as a group, and as a group only. So working on my own tape means that I have to do everything related to all the songs on the album. I have to take part in writing the lyrics and the melodies for all the songs and the production process,” he told Rolling Stones.
“So, it is a bit of a pressure to bear all of the load that is distributed among the other members for a group album. So it is tough," V continued. "But what is good about it is it gives me an opportunity to show who I am, and show the music that really has the color of Kim Taehyung, the color of V, to our ARMY. So that’s great opportunity of course, and that’s what makes creating this mixtape so much fun and fulfilling."
