Cristine Reyes reacts to criticisms over Barbie Hsu tribute, self-birthday greeting post: 'Bawal magkamali nowadays'
Cristine Reyes paid tribute to the late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu even as she greeted herself with a happy birthday in the same post, leading to ridicule and criticism.
In the now-deleted viral Facebook post that was captured by several pages, including FTTM, Reyes shared an old photo of her with Hsu.
"Rest in peace, Shancai our childhood favorite," she said, referring to Hsu's character in the hit 2001 television series Meteor Garden. "[A]lso, happy 36th to me today 2-5-25."
She added the hashtags #meteorgarden, #childhoodmemories, #hongkong, and #lankwaifong.
Several netizens were amused by the unexpected pairing of greetings while others were not as pleased with the post.
Reyes deleted her post amid the influx of reactions, prompting her to rant on Instagram Story.
"Maligayang kaarawan sa akin. Yun na lang, oks na?" she said.
"Kailangan palaging perfect. Bawal magkamali nowadays. May kalupitan na kapalit sa mga bagay kapag nagkamali e, di ba?" she continued.

"Marahil ako nga talaga ay nagluluksa ngayong kaarawan ko," she added. "Good? Ang daming magagaling sa mundo."
Hsu died of pneumonia after contracting influenza during a Lunar New Year celebration in Japan. She was 48.
The late actress is survived by her husband, South Korean singer and disc jockey Jun-yup, as well as her 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son with her ex-husband Wang Xiaofei.
