Kathryn Bernardo has bagged the Outstanding Asian Star Award at the 2023 Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA). She is the second female Filipino actress to win this award.

Star Cinema announced the news on their social media accounts on July 27. “Congratulations to our very good girl!” they wrote in the caption.

ABS-CBN also congratulated the actress on Twitter, saying, “This Asian Superstar is conquering the world! Congratulations, Kapamilya!”

The award-giving body announced the nominees for the category last May 22.

The award will be granted to six renowned actors across six countries, namely the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, and Taiwan under sub-categories for their respective countries.

Nominees for the Outstanding Asian Star under the Philippine sub-category are Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Barbie Forteza, Dennis Trillo, and Julie Ann San Jose. The winner was selected through votes cast on the Idolchamp voting app from June 15 to July 14.

Last year, Belle Mariano became the first Filipina to win at the SDA under the same category for her performance in the romantic comedy series He’s Into Her.

Actors Gabby Concepcion, Dennis Trillo, Alden Richards, and Dingdong Dantes are among the previous SDA winners.

The Seoul International Drama Awards was founded in 2006, and it strives to bring together global TV drama productions and promote cultural diversity.

The awards ceremony of the 18th edition of the Seoul International Drama Awards will be held on September 21 and will be broadcast on Korea’s KBS2TV.

Kathryn meanwhile has three movies lined up: A Very Good Girl with Dolly de Leon which just wrapped up filming, Elena 1944 directed by Olivia Lamasan, and an untitled film with her boyfriend Daniel Padilla.
