With her role in the upcoming film Maid in Malacañang, Ella Cruz is hopeful that its future viewers would keep an open mind on the "other side" of the controversies surrounding the Marcos family.

In an interview with TV reporter and The Philippine STAR columnist MJ Marfori, the actress pointed out that “history is like tsismis.”

“It is filtered and dagdag na rin, so, hindi natin alam what is the real history. Andoon na iyong idea, pero may mga bias talaga,” she said.

The TV personality, who will portray Irene Marcos in the movie, said she’s open to knowing the other side of the story through her participation in the new project. She also emphasized that she respects other people’s views on the Marcoses. “As long as we’re here alive at may kanya-kanyang opinion, I respect everyone’s opinion.”

According to director Darryl Yap, the movie produced by Viva Films will give Filipinos a look at “the last 72 hours of the Marcoses inside the Palace through the eyes of one reliable source.”

In an online press conference for the movie, Imee Marcos—the daughter of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. who put the country under martial law for over ten years and was ousted in 1986—promised that there won’t be “historical revisionism” of any kind in Maid in Malacañang.

“Sa isipan namin, for me at sa aking pamilya, panahon na para magkuwento rin kami kung anong nangyari sa Malacañang, yung nalalaman namin. Hindi natin binabago ang katotohanan. Dinadagdagan lamang ng kaalaman namin,” she said.

“We’re not revising anything. It’s totally inaccurate to say that. We’re simply explaining in this film, to some degree, kung ano yung mga pangyayari nung huling tatlong araw,” added Imee.

Aside from Ella, the cast also includes Cesar Montano (Marcos Sr.), Ruffa Gutierrez (Imelda Marcos), Cristine Reyes (Imee Marcos), and Diego Loyzaga (President Bongbong Marcos). The film is slated for a July 20 release.
